Electrode welding

Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW for short) is also called stick welding in the trade. The principal is simple but very reliable. When welding, you strike an arc between a consumable electrode covered with flux, and the workpiece.

No shielding gas is required. This makes shielded metal arc welding particularly suitable for marine applications.
